Honeybee Removal

Have you discovered honeybees living inside the walls and/or ceilings of your home and are in fear of being stung?  At Bees, Bats and Beyond we have the right equipment, knowledge and experience to perform honeybee removal services.

Bee removal services usually involve opening up a wall and/or ceiling to access the bee colony.  This procedure is referred to as a “cutout”.

Most of the bee removal work takes approximately 4 to 8 hours of work time.  Although getting the structure back to its original condition can sometimes be accomplished on the same day, sometimes it could take an additional day or two, depending on the weather, time of year and/or other unprecedented situations.

On some structures it is not practical or feasible to do a cutout.  Such might be the case when the structure is made out of brick, metal or stucco.  This requires a different technique called a "trap-out" or "extraction".  In order to do a successful bee removal utilizing the extraction technique some bee equipment has to be set up at a strategic location and has to remain there for a specific amount of time.  This procedure usually takes longer and is slightly more costly due to the time requirement.  An extraction can take anywhere from one to two weeks depending on the weather and location of the bee colony as well as the time of year.

Before the extraction can begin I have to get to the top and open up the soffit to inspect the size of the nest and to determine how to proceed.

After exposing the honeybee nest I begin to slowly start cutting the comb.  The objective is to remove the bees, comb, honey and brood with minimal damage.

Here I just removed a large chunk of comb loaded with honey.  Before storing the comb all the bees get removed with a special vacuum which prevents the honeybees from getting injured.  If the comb happens to have brood, I save the chunks onto wooden frames which the bees will repair and continue using.

In order to perform this honeybee removal service, the old damaged siding and wall sheeting had to be removed in order to expose the nest.

The honeybee removal service also included the removal of all wax comb, honey and brood.  After the cleanup, insulation was installed to prevent any future infestations followed by new sheeting and cedar shingles.
